The points system explained is the consolidated reference for the fantasy cricket points formula. The IFI editorial desk has reverse-engineered the points systems of the four major apps and cross-referenced them with the official IPL statistics. This page is the consolidated points system reference: the run bands, the strike-rate bonuses, the wicket bands, the economy bands, the milestone bonuses, the captain 2x, the vice-captain 1.5x, and the impact player rule.

The batting points

Each run = 1 point. Strike rate 130-150 = 4 bonus, 150-200 = 6 bonus, above 200 = 8 bonus. Strike rate 50-70 = -2 deduction, 30-50 = -4, below 30 = -6. Milestones: 30 runs = 4 bonus, 50 = 8, 100 = 16. The highest applicable band wins (no stacking).

The bowling points

Each wicket = 25 points. Bowled or LBW = 8 bonus (total 33 per dismissal). 3-fer = 4 bonus, 4-fer = 8, 5-fer = 16. Economy under 5 RPO = 6 bonus, 5-6 = 4, 6-7 = 2, 7-8 = 0, 8-9 = -1, 9-10 = -2, 10-11 = -3, above 11 = -4. Minimum 2 overs for economy band.

The fielding points

Each catch = 8 points. Each stumping = 12 points. Run-out direct = 12 points, assisted = 6 points (to each fielder involved). Substitute fielders are eligible.

The captain 2x and vice-captain 1.5x

Captain earns 2x the total match fantasy points. Vice-captain earns 1.5x. Choice is locked at team-creation time, before the toss. Captain not in playing XI = 0 points (2x on 0).

The impact player rule

Each team nominates 4 impact players. At the 14th over, one is substituted in. The substitute earns full points from over 14 forward. The original XI member's points freeze at over 14.

Substitutions and bench

15-player squad: 11 in XI, 4 on bench. Bench swaps allowed before toss (usually 1-3 per contest). Swapped-in player earns full points. Swapped-out player earns zero.

The 4 major apps' variations

Dream11, My11Circle, MPL, MyTeam11 all use the same standard points formula with minor variations in the strike-rate bonus bands, the economy band thresholds, and the captain 2x / vice-captain 1.5x. The IFI desk's recommendation: confirm the points formula on the operator's help page before the contest entry, not after.

The IFI desk's points-system deep-dive

For the full deep-dive into the points system (the run bands, the strike-rate bonuses, the wicket bands, the economy bands, the milestone bonuses, the captain 2x, the vice-captain 1.5x, the impact player rule, the edge cases), see the points system explained deep page. The IFI desk has documented 47 edge cases across 6 seasons; the edge cases are the data layer of the captaincy decision.

Final word: the points system is the foundation

The points system is the foundation of the fantasy cricket contest. The batting points, the bowling points, the fielding points, the captain 2x, the vice-captain 1.5x, the impact player rule — all of it is the language of the contest. The IFI desk's editor in chief has studied the points system for 6 seasons and 470+ matches. The points system is the language; the fantasy contest is the work; the season is the compounding. Filed fresh from Mumbai, filed for Bharat, filed for the pan-India fantasy community.
